In 2008, Drago dropped off the main tour but spent the 2008-09 season playing in amateur tournaments in an attempt to regain his place as a professional. He went on to win the EBSA International Open in 2009 meaning a return to the main tour for the 2009-10 season.
Despite having to play four qualifying matches to reach the televised stages of ranking tournaments, Tony qualified for the final 32 of both the Welsh Open and the China Open last season as well as winning three of his four qualifying matches in the Shanghai Masters, Grand Prix and World Championships.
