In 2006, Adam's career was beginning to blossom having been chosen to represent England at the European Under-21 Championships. It was at this time that he also began to experience pain in his neck which an MRI scan revealed was down to a ruptured tumor at the top of his spine. Adam required an emergency 7-hour operation in which verterbrae in his neck were broken in order to access the tumor. He went on to spend six months recovering in hospital and spent four of those months unable to walk. He was also warned that there was a chance that he may never walk again.
Fast forward four years and despite having to take 18 months out from playing snooker, Adam has just topped the English rankings earning himself a place on the Main Tour for the 2010-11 season. Wicheard will be grabbing this opportunity with both hands having to overcome more than most to realise his dream of becoming a professional snooker player.
